Monkey King

The adventures of a Buddhist monk named Xuanzang and his four disciples, who travel from China to India to obtain sacred scriptures. The novel is based on the historical pilgrimage of Xuanzang, who lived in the seventh century and spent 16 years in India studying Buddhism. The novel is also a comic satire of Chinese society and bureaucracy, as well as an allegory of human striving and perseverance.
